One Device, Two Functions
BESSVent is an auxiliary device for battery energy storage systems (BESS) that combines explosion pressure relief with active exhaust of harmful gases. During normal operation, an electric linear actuator opens the lid to actively ventilate and exhaust harmful gases from the enclosure. In an explosion event, the entire assembly acts as a relief opening, instantly venting overpressure to protect the enclosure structure.

Explosion Risk in Lithium BESS
Passive vents alone cannot control gas accumulation — active exhaust and pressure relief are both required
Flammable Gas Accumulation
Thermal runaway releases large volumes of flammable gases (H₂, CO, hydrocarbons) that accumulate inside sealed enclosures.
Instant Overpressure
Any ignition source causes deflagration with instantaneous overpressure — structural damage and cascading fire.
High-Density Propagation
In dense AI data-center and utility storage containers, a single-cell event can propagate to neighbouring units fast.
Passive Vents Insufficient
Fixed passive vents only relieve pressure — they cannot actively exhaust gas, so accumulation continues and risk stays uncontrolled.
Core Technical Advantages
Ventilation + Explosion Relief
Actively exhausts harmful gases during normal operation; acts as a full relief opening during explosion events to instantly vent overpressure.
Hazardous-Area Rated
ATEX equipment group II, certified for gas (G) and dust (D) hazardous zones. Notified Body NB 1453.
All-Weather Protection
IP66 rated, withstands 185 km/h wind load and 1 m snow load. Verified to EN IEC 60068-2-58 salt-mist testing.
Automated Opening
Electric linear actuator, 25–50 s to full open, remote-controllable. Automatic locks secure the closed position.
Powered Relief & Ventilation Mechanism
Motor Drive
A DC motor with lever transmission opens and closes the lid.
Auto Unlock
Automatic locks secure the closed position and release in the first phase of motor movement.
Unified Wiring
Motor power outputs are routed to the terminal box for centralized management.
Limit Protection
Limit switches at end positions cut drive power automatically.
Status Monitoring
Terminal box houses a diaphragm-status sensor and a closed-and-locked position sensor.
Safe Operation
Keep the working area clear of personnel and obstacles when closing (no separate anti-pinch protection).
